Trapping floating macro-debris using a movable siphon barrier
A mechanical device that operates without electricity and monitors the water level in the system to trap oil, plastic, and floating debris before they reach the natural environment.
The challenge
How can we prevent floating waste collected by sewer systems from entering the natural environment?
Especially during rainy periods, sewer and stormwater systems can carry floating macro-waste, which sometimes ends up in the receiving environment.
The 3D EAU solution
The Floating Siphon Partition
Installing a siphon wall prevents this pollution of the receiving environment. The wall blocks surface flow, forcing the water to pass through the siphon. The goal is to prevent oils, plastic waste, and all other floating materials from being carried into the natural environment without treatment.
Unlike a fixed siphon wall, the movable siphon wall can rest very close to the pipe’s foundation during dry weather. Its gradual rise as the water level rises, along with its velocity-reducing design, allows it to retain as many floating debris as possible upstream.

Manufacturing and installation
The movable siphon partition is custom-designed and manufactured from 316L stainless steel in our workshops in France.
3D EAU tests it on a test bench to verify its hydraulic performance. It is then delivered to the site for installation.
Installation is trenchless and takes just a few days, requiring minimal civil engineering work. The partition is lowered through the existing access manhole and installed in the pipeline system.
Benefits
A mechanical system that does not require a power supply
No impact on day-to-day operations.
Limited impact on the structure’s drainage capacity during storm events
